pain relief
In the event of sudden injury it can be possible to alleviate the dog's pain with paracetamol. Firstly phone your vet and explain the circumstances. If you cannot get to them immediately or the situation isn't severe enough to require their intervention, then they may recommend a safe dosage of paracetamol for your dog to take.
Taken over time paracetamol can do damage to the dog's internal organs and so is only advisable for short-term use in emergencies. If your dog requires continued pain relief then your vet will prescribe a more suitable medication upon examination.

N.B.
Never administer pain relief without first checking with your vet - you could prolong their wait for urgent and necessary surgery if it is required thus putting your dog at great risk.
